I’ve seen a lot of upscaling of books lately and have been fooling with it myself for awhile now.

For the bibliophiles that don’t approve of defacing the sacred book here are my rules.

There are 10,000 other copies out there somewhere
No salvageable images.
There is no one I can give it to who would read it.
Someone gives it to me who was throwing it out.
I’ve read or tried to read the book and its garbage.
Its not really old.
It doesn’t smell

Queen Sofia Spanish Institute Regional Dress Exhibit

The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute on Park Avenue is an intimate venue for these elegant examples of regional costume and the vibrant paintings of Joaquin Sorolla. (ends March 10th 2012)

These meticulously crafted examples offer scores of inspiration. Velvet, boiled wool, appliqued buckskin and boiled wool, ribbons, metallic embroidery, lace and ruffles assembled with a distinctively recognizable Spanish style. Apparently the Spaniards spurned everything French as a result of Napoleon’s invasion and developed their own fashions known as traje majo a style drawn from the matador and gypsy.

My favorites were the huge corsages of fancy ribbons, the multi layered skirts black and white with a touch of red and then gold…and and of course the head gear.

Kudos to the lighting designer as well as everybody else involved in the creation of this great exhibit.

That would be Oscar de la Renta, chairman of the Institute and curator Andre Leon Talley.

This wonderful film makers Liberty Smith and Sophie Windsor Clive has captured for us the amazing phenomenon of murmuration when thousands of starlings fly and swirl collectively in preparation for nesting and protect themselves against predators.

Lorenzo Audet Postcards

I’ve held onto this 1950′s card I received years ago of a womens’ prison in Quebec. It looks like a hotel for Hobbits. Where are these women? Did they ever get to ramble in those green expansive looking fields of grass? Did publisher Lorenzo Audet’s photographer crop this tudor fantasy fortress to omit the fences and gates that would give this a more ominous look? It almost looks like it could be a happy place and we know that it is not. This incongruency is provoking as are all those straightforward architechtural photos of the period. We know what has become of the world and all the things that can happen inside and out.

Beckham promo

AS I was walking by the H&M store on 34th and 7th in Manhattan I received this promo item handed out from a young lady. These little booklets 3.25w X 4.25h inches have 24 pages of black and white shots of Mr. Beckham in his new line of bodywear.
I was more excited by the format of the vehicle than Mr. Beckhams vehicle (If you know what I mean;))
I love these little surprise gifts that Manhattan can deliver when you least expect it. This will be added to my collection of Promo inspiration. I’m working on my own at present and this definitely offered me inspiration .
Too bad I was in a hurry I might have disguised myself and gone back and forth accumulating a nice inventory for ebay! Mr. B. certainly is a collectible.
